Rosacea: Causes and Symptom Management
What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes facial redness, visible blood vessels, red bumps, and inflammation. It can also lead to an increase in the sensitivity of skin, dry or rough textured skin, raised red patches on the skin, and facial swelling or inflammation. The exact cause of rosacea is unknown and it could be due to genetics, diet, or your immune system to name a few possibilities. There is also no specific 'cure' but there are ways to manage your symptoms and soothe flare-ups should you wish to.
Broken or widened blood vessels (telangiectasia) can be treated with lasers, and medicated creams and treatments are available for those with particularly severe or uncomfortable cases of rosacea. However, due to the sensitive nature of this skin condition, many people opt for natural remedies to alleviate their symptoms instead.
To prevent or calm a rosacea flare-up, it is crucial to ensure that you drink enough water and stay away from overly dry environments. Because this is not always possible, it could instead mean putting precautions in place when heading somewhere heavily air-conditioned. This could be as simple as a really nourishing facial moisturiser or barrier cream to protect the skin. When being outside, daily application of sunscreen is an essential part of preventing broken capillaries and general sun safety; this will lower the likelihood of redness caused by rosacea.
What skincare is best for those suffering from symptoms of rosacea?
In general, when choosing skincare products to suit skin suffering from rosacea symptoms, it is usually best to stick to products formulated for sensitive skin and that avoid inflammatory or pore-clogging oils. Furthermore, particular ingredients have been linked to successful accounts of the reduction of rosacea symptoms and can be useful to incorporate into your routine.
Hempheart Oil is a wonderfully soothing oil that can combat inflammation and redness in the skin. Its powerful healing properties can aid in the reduction of rosacea flare-ups, and it is non-comedogenic, so it won't clog your pores! Hempheart Oil is used in all of our products so that you can reap the full benefits of this fantastic ingredient.
Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) is a non-comedogenic oil that has been linked to the reduction of skin inflammation. Its high content of omega fatty acids makes it a nourishing addition to your skincare routine. Our HempTonic Face Oil is an easy way to introduce this to your routine, morning and night.
Aloe Vera is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which make it suitable for aftersun care. These properties are also excellent for reducing inflammation surrounding rosacea flare-ups or preventing them. Hark & Zander's newest product, the HempHydrate Refreshing Gel Toner, features Aloe Vera alongside Hyaluronic Acid, which has incredible moisturising properties. These ingredients team up to produce a light, rosacea-friendly toner that can be used morning and night.
Kakadu Plum is an incredible natural source of Vitamin C and has anti-inflammatory properties, making it helpful in assisting the reduction of rosacea-caused redness. Vitamin C is also used to strengthen capillaries, which, once broken, contribute to facial redness. Kakadu Plum features in the Hark & Zander HempBright Face the Day Crème, perfect for everyday use.

The rosacia has calmed and my skin is looking good
I am loving the oil.I am 76, have had shingles on my face neck and chest several times,my skin is now very sensitlve,I frequently get rashes, and have rosacia. There was very little I could safely use on my face. I'm very happy to tell you I have had no reaction at all,the rosacia has calmed and my skin is looking good. I like that it sinks into the skin , doesn't look greasy and smells lovely. A bonus is that I drop it on the back of my hand to more easily transfer to my face,my hands are now looking much better too. I think you have done a very good job and hope your bussiness goes well.
