How to Maintain Your Skin's Elasticity

Maintaining your skin's elasticity is a great way to keep it looking healthy and youthful. Our skin loses its natural elasticity as we age, leading to fine lines and wrinkles. However, if you wish to prevent this, here are a few tips to keep your skin looking refreshed!

  1. Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water is critical for maintaining skin elasticity. When our skin is dehydrated, it becomes more susceptible to wrinkles and fine lines. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water daily to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.
  2. Eat a Healthy Diet: Eating a diet rich in vitamins and minerals is another important step in maintaining skin elasticity. Foods that are high in antioxidants, such as berries, leafy greens, and kumara, can help protect your skin from damage.
  3. Protect Your Skin from the Sun: The sun's harmful UV rays can cause damage to your skin. To protect your skin, make sure to wear sunscreen with a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher and avoid direct sun exposure during the peak hours of the day. This is especially important in the harsh NZ sun!
  4. Get Plenty of Sleep: Sleep is essential for maintaining skin elasticity, as it is during this time that our skin cells regenerate and repair. Aim to get at least seven hours of sleep each night to give your skin the rest it needs to look its best.
  5. Use a Quality Moisturiser: Moisturising your skin twice daily is crucial for maintaining its elasticity. Hark & Zander's Brighten & Restore Duo is perfect for this! It contains both H&Z's Brightening Face the Day Crème and Restoring Good Night Crème to nourish your skin morning and night. They contain ingredients that plump, hydrate, and restore the skin - helping maintain your skin's natural elasticity.
  6. Reduce Stress: Stress can have a negative impact on both our skin and our mental health. While stress is not always avoidable, try to combat this with self-care exercises like yoga, gua sha, or even just taking a relaxing bath or shower.

Maintaining your skin's elasticity requires a combination of restorative habits. The above tips will not only be helpful for your skin, but will also promote healthiness in other areas of your life that people often lack (like hydration and sleep)!

One of the ways we recommended practicing self-care was through gua sha. If you are interested in this, we have a blog on how to give yourself an at-home lymphatic drainage massage.
