Sophie Preece talks to Kirsty Harkness about an unconventional vineyard cover crop

Sophie Preece (Wine New Zealand) visits Kirsty Harkness in Marlborough to find out more about the leafy-green crop she has flourishing amid Sauvignon Blanc vines in a trial she started in 2018 to boost vineyard health and income.
Sophie discovers that Kirsty is the first grape grower in New Zealand licensed to grow industrial h*mp and she’s using it as a cover crop, attracting insects, and nurturing the soil.
Kirsty then became curious about the broader benefits of hempseed oil and began researching its place in natural skincare. This trail of curiosity lead Kirsty to  some fascinating research and findings. Little did she know then that within two years she'd be launching a hempseed oil based, natural, luxury skincare brand that is ready to take on the giants of the industry.
Sophie’s article about Kirsty is one of business innovation, staying positive and working hard against the odds. Read the full story at New Zealand Wine.
